What is Yam?

Yam is a tuberous vegetable, primarily cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. Not to be mistaken for sweet potatoes, yams have distinct physical characteristics and nutritional profiles. They have been an integral part of various cultures’ diets and culinary traditions, prized for their versatility and substantive nutritional content.

Our Process

  1. Planting: The yam plant requires a warm climate and fertile soil. It is typically cultivated via vegetative propagation using small portions of the tuber.

  2. Harvesting: Depending on the variety, yams are ready for harvest between 6 to 12 months after planting. Harvesting involves careful extraction to avoid damaging the tubers.

  3. Cleaning: Harvested yams are cleaned to remove soil and other contaminants.

  4. Storage: Yams can be stored in a cool, dry place for several weeks. Proper storage is essential to preserve their quality.

  5. Processing: Yams can be processed into various forms such as yam flour or dried yam chips.

  6. Packaging: Yams, whether in their original tuber form or processed, are packaged appropriately for transportation and retail.

  7. Shipping: The packaged yams are then shipped to various locations, ensuring they reach in prime condition.
